Wegovy®  (semaglutide) injection

Wegovy is a revolutionary weight loss medication approved by the FDA for adults struggling with obesity or overweight with weight-related medical conditions. Its active ingredient, semaglutide, is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels.

⇨ Wegovy®  contains semaglutide and should not be used with other semaglutide-containing products or other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines

⇨ It is not known if Wegovy®  is safe and effective when taken with other prescription, over-the-counter, or herbal weight loss products

⇨ It is not known if Wegovy®  can be used safely in people with a history of pancreatitis

⇨ It is not known if Wegovy®  is safe and effective for use in children under 12 years of age

Wegovy is administered as a subcutaneous injection once a week. The dosage is gradually increased over a period of several weeks to minimize side effects. It is important to follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for dosage and administration to ensure the best results.

Wegovy works by mimicking the action of GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone that regulates appetite. By binding to GLP-1 receptors in the brain, Wegovy helps increase feelings of fullness, leading to reduced calorie intake and weight loss. Additionally, it promotes the release of insulin and suppresses glucagon, which aids in blood sugar regulation.

  • You or any of your family have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • You have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Wegovy®
  • have or have had problems with your pancreas or kidneys
  • have type 2 diabetes and a history of diabetic retinopathy
  • have or have had depression, suicidal thoughts, or mental health issues
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Wegovy® may harm your unborn baby. You should stop using Wegovy® 2 months before you plan to become pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Wegovy® passes into your breast milk

Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Wegovy® may affect the way some medicines work and some medicines may affect the way Wegovy® works. Tell your healthcare provider if you are taking other medicines to treat diabetes, including sulfonylureas or insulin. Wegovy® slows stomach emptying and can affect medicines that need to pass through the stomach quickly.

Wegovy® has the potential to cause serious side effects, which include:

  1. Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas may occur. If you experience severe abdominal pain that doesn't subside, with or without vomiting, stop taking Wegovy® and contact your healthcare provider. The pain might be felt from your abdomen to your back.

  2. Gallbladder issues: Wegovy® could lead to gallbladder complications, such as gallstones, which may require surgery in some cases. Consult your healthcare provider if you notice symptoms like upper abdominal pain, fever, jaundice, or clay-colored stools.

  3. Increased risk of hypoglycemia: Patients with type 2 diabetes, especially those on medications like sulfonylureas or insulin, may experience a higher risk of low blood sugar. Discuss with your healthcare provider about recognizing and managing hypoglycemia. Monitor your blood sugar levels before and during Wegovy® treatment. Symptoms of low blood sugar can include dizziness, blurred vision, anxiety, mood swings, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion, shakiness, weakness, headache, rapid heartbeat, or jitteriness.

  4. Kidney failure: For individuals with existing kidney problems, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting could lead to dehydration and worsen kidney issues. Ensure you stay hydrated to minimize the risk of dehydration.

  5. Severe allergic reactions: If you experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, such as facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe rash, itching, fainting, dizziness, or rapid heartbeat, stop taking Wegovy® and seek immediate medical assistance.

  6. Vision changes: Inform your healthcare provider if you notice any changes in your vision while taking Wegovy® if you have type 2 diabetes.

  7. Elevated heart rate: Wegovy® can cause an increased heart rate even when resting. Notify your healthcare provider if you experience a racing or pounding sensation in your chest lasting for several minutes.

  8. Depression or suicidal thoughts: Be attentive to any changes in mood, behavior, thoughts, or feelings, particularly if they are sudden or worsening. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you notice any new or concerning mental changes.

Common side effects of Wegovy® may include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, upset stomach, dizziness, bloating, belching, gas, stomach flu, heartburn, and symptoms of a cold or sore throat.

Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection 2.4 mg is indicated as an adjunct to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in:

  • Adults with an initial body mass index (BMI) of ≥30 kg/m2 (obesity) or ≥27 kg/m2 (overweight) in the presence of at least one weight-related comorbid condition (e.g., hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or dyslipidemia)
  • Pediatric patients aged 12 years and older with an initial BMI at the 95th percentile or greater standardized for age and sex (obesity)

WARNING: RISK OF THYROID C-CELL TUMORS

  • In rodents, semaglutide causes dose-dependent and treatment-duration-dependent thyroid C-cell tumors at clinically relevant exposures. It is unknown whether Wegovy® causes thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans as human relevance of semaglutide-induced rodent thyroid C-cell tumors has not been determined
  • Wegovy® is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Counsel patients regarding the potential risk for MTC with the use of Wegovy® and inform them of symptoms of thyroid tumors (e.g. a mass in the neck, dysphagia, dyspnea, persistent hoarseness). Routine monitoring of serum calcitonin or using thyroid ultrasound is of uncertain value for early detection of MTC in patients treated with Wegovy®

Why Choose Medically Assisted Weight Loss?

Did you know there are many things beyond your control that prevent you from losing weight? They include a sluggish metabolism, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and even resistance to insulin. Many people are unaware that they're living with one or more of these conditions. They've simply felt the effects when they struggle to slim down. Medical weight loss helps you take back control by correcting the ailments that force your body to hang onto unwanted fat. Under direct physician supervision, you’ll receive the right medications and vitamins to help your body break down its own fat cells. These can include powerful appetite suppressants like phentermine as well as injection treatments like HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and GLP-1 therapies like Ozempic and Wegovy. You do not need to have a medical condition to benefit from medical weight loss. In fact, several of our own physicians and nurses have gone through our programs with results that have lasted to this day.

In addition to our comprehensive medication options, we formulate our own exclusive injection compounds - Tirzepatide, which is even more effective and includes vitamin B six to counteract the G.I. side effects. Patients often come in seeking our popular injection, a potent lipotropic developed by our medical team to let you safely drop up to 3.5 pounds of body fat per week.

You may be wondering whether you’ll need to make extreme lifestyle changes to go through our weight loss programs. The answer is no. Medical weight loss allows you to shed significant body fat without any overly strenuous exercise. So long as you maintain a sensible healthy diet, your body continues to burn its own fat as fuel, resulting in continued weight reduction by the day. Of course, patients that exercise will absolutely notice a much better outcome especially with regards to weight loss and maintenance of your desired results. We really do also want to emphasize a lifestyle change. Please be careful with other Weight loss clinics that tell you that you do not have to eat healthier or work out at all and can just sit back and achieve fantastic results that will last your entire lifetime. That is just not realistic.

Thanks to our proven effective programs, giving yourself the gift of a fit, healthier mind and body no longer needs to be challenging or uncomfortable. If you’d like to learn more about how our programs can work for you, you're welcome to call or email our knowledgeable team.
